All robot pool cleaners. Every figure below is placed against the whole class, so a gap can be read against how much the class itself varies.
The conditions each robot was assessed against, side by side. Rows marked in gold are where these machines genuinely differ.
| Condition | Polaris 9450 Sport | Dolphin S200 |
|---|---|---|
| Pool type | ||
| In-ground | GoodDesigned specifically for in-ground pools; 4WD and wall-climbing brush are optimized for this geometry. | GoodDesigned for in-ground pools with pump and return-line infrastructure. |
| Above-ground | PoorManufacturer specifies in-ground pools only; drive configuration is not compatible with above-ground pool walls. | PoorRequires pressure-side return line; above-ground pools typically lack this system. |
| Mixed setupthey differ | DependsCapable only on the in-ground pool in the setup; does not cover any above-ground pool sharing the installation. | GoodConfirm your pool has a dedicated pressure return line before purchase. |
| Pool size | ||
| Small (< 400 sqft) | GoodCovers pools well under 50 feet; 90-minute cycle completes full coverage with capacity to spare. | GoodCapable but may be overkill for under 8,000 gallons; a smaller suction cleaner would cost less. |
| Medium (400 – 800) | GoodSystematic gyroscopic navigation handles mid-size in-ground pools up to 50 feet within a single 90-minute cycle. | Good12,000–20,000 gallon range is the designed operating envelope. |
| Large (> 800)they differ | Poor60-foot swivel cable limits pool length coverage to 50 feet; pools exceeding that require a longer-cable model. | DependsWorks in 20,000+ gallon pools but may require longer runtime or two weekly cycles. |
| Debris load | ||
| Fine (sand / silt) | GoodVortex Vacuum Technology draws fine sediment and particles into the 5L canister effectively. | GoodFine sediment handled well by pressure-side filtration. |
| Leaves / large debristhey differ | GoodExtra-large 5L canister handles leaf debris without mid-cycle full-canister pauses in most moderate-debris pools. | DependsHeavy leaf load risks intake clogging; pre-skimming recommended during fall. |
| Algae / heavy foulingthey differ | GoodSolid-blade scrubbing brush scrubs floor, wall, and waterline surfaces where algae accumulates. | DependsFloor and wall algae handled; waterline algae requires manual brushing. |
| Coverage you want | ||
| Floor only | GoodSystematic floor coverage is the baseline function; gyroscopic navigation reduces missed strips. | GoodDesigned for complete floor coverage. |
| Floor + walls | Good4WD enables wall climbing; manufacturer specs include wall coverage as a documented capability. | GoodStandard wall climbing with wall-return port engagement documented in specs. |
| Floor + walls + waterlinethey differ | GoodSolid-blade scrubbing brush reaches the tile line and waterline surface; owner reports describe effective waterline scrubbing. | PoorNo waterline jet; algae at tile line is not reached by this model. |
A robot being poor for a condition is a fact about fit, not a fault. “Depends” means the record names a limit worth reading, not that the answer is unknown.
Nine inputs across three pillars, each weighted as shown and each scored so more is better. A robot can lead on one and trail on another, which is the point of showing them apart.
A number only means something next to the spread it sits in. Each track is the real range across every classified robot in the class, with the median marked.
Not compared, because fewer than two of these robots carry a published figure: Runtime, Charge time, Noise.
Written on each record, and the only thing here every robot on the site carries.
What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.
The 7-day timer is the only scheduling interface: no remote start, no app override, no on-demand cycle without a manual power reset.
Systematic gyroscopic navigation covers the pool methodically, but the 60-foot cable imposes a hard 50-foot pool-length limit; larger pools require a longer-cable model.
Coverage runs floor, walls and waterline in one cycle, but everything it collects comes out by hand: the basket is lifted from the water and emptied at the pool edge after every run.
Mains power removes any runtime ceiling, but it ties the cleaner to an outlet at the deck, and the cable comes out of the water and gets coiled after every cycle.
Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.
The upkeep ownership hands back to you, whatever the autonomy level says.
Classifications rest on different depths of evidence. A pre-release assessment and a verified one are not the same kind of claim.

Evidence status counts the sources behind a classification, not their kind. A high count can be maker documentation and price coverage, so read it as how much was reviewed rather than as independent testing. How we weigh evidence.
