The Autonomy Ladder is the same five rungs for every robot on the site. A rung describes the conditions a robot handles without you, not how good it is.

02 Assessment

Where they actually differ.

The Robovations Score is nine inputs across three pillars, each weighted as shown and each scored so that more is better. A robot can lead on one and trail on another, which is the point of showing them apart. Cost of ownership and data handling are reported on each robot's own page and are never averaged into the score.

04 Ownership

What the numbers leave out.

The trade-off

What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.

Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 5000

Positioning is precise and wire-free without site hardware, but it is delivered as a service: correction arrives over the built-in 4G module, Mammotion includes three years of it, and the renewal terms after that are not published.

All-wheel-drive handles slopes and wet conditions that challenge two-wheel competitors, but increases blade wear and maintenance.

TerraMow X AWD

A $2,699 pledge buys a September 2026 ship target, not a mower in the shed.

The slope rating is the headline claim, and at 90 percent it is also the one no independent test has checked.

Who each one is wrong for

Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.

Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 5000
Small urban lots under 5,000 square feet
RTK system cost and setup effort outweigh benefit on compact properties. Wire-guided or manual mowing more cost-effective.
Lawns above the rated 5,000 square meters
The 5000 in the model name is the coverage rating: 5,000 sq m, which Mammotion states as 1.25 acres. Larger properties run past what one machine and one charging station are rated to keep cut.
Owners avoiding cloud connectivity or app-based scheduling
Setup, boundary drawing and schedule changes all run through the Mammotion app and account. The mower does not depend on household Wi-Fi, since it carries its own 4G module, and the schedule executes on the machine rather than being fetched on each dock return, but there is no way to own and operate it without the app and the service behind it.
Budget-conscious buyers with flat simple geometries
Entry-level wire-guided mowers cost 40-50% less and perform adequately on simple rectangular lawns.
Properties without usable cellular coverage at the lawn
Correction data reaches the mower over its built-in 4G module. Where cellular coverage is poor, the precision that boundaries depend on degrades, and there is no boundary wire to fall back on.
TerraMow X AWD
Owners set on a buried perimeter wire
TerraMow's launch material describes only camera vision and nRTK positioning with auto mapping. A household that wants a wired boundary is shopping for a different machine.
Buyers who need a working mower this season
This is a crowdfunded machine. First units carry a September 2026 ship target and the expansion battery a November 2026 target, and Mowing Magic advises treating it as crowdfunding.
Very steep lots that depend on the slope rating
The 90 percent (42 degree) figure is TerraMow's own. Mowing Magic's launch preview says that rating needs real-world verification, and no hands-on test has been published.
Households uneasy about yard camera footage
The app streams live front and rear camera feeds for remote monitoring. TerraMow has not published where that imagery is processed or how long it is kept.

What stays your job

The upkeep ownership hands back to you, whatever the autonomy level says.

  • Weekly: Remove grass clippings from blade deck, inspect dock contacts for debris.
  • Monthly: Replace blades if cut quality degrades; wipe the LiDAR window and the camera lenses. Robot mower blades are replaced, never sharpened: grinding weakens the protective coating and leaves an unbalanced part spinning unattended.
  • Every 3-6 months: Deep clean charging contacts and undercarriage, check for corrosion on all-wheel-drive drivetrain.
  • Annually: Replace the blade set if worn beyond the manufacturer threshold; check the charging-station siting and clear anything that has grown into its approach path.
  • As needed: Clear dock obstruction if the unit fails to dock; check app connectivity if scheduling or remote control stops responding.

  • Weekly: Wipe the six front and rear camera lenses, since vision guides navigation.
  • Monthly: Check the three cutting discs and their blades for wear, damage and packed grass.
  • As needed: Swap blades; TerraMow offers razor and straight blade options for this model.
  • Seasonally: Clear clippings from the underside of the floating deck and around the wheels.
  • Annually: Inspect the 300 W charger cable and charging contacts before the mowing season.
05 Evidence

How much each of these is standing on.

Classifications rest on different depths of evidence. A pre-release assessment and a verified one are not the same kind of claim.
