Husqvarna Automower 320 NERA

EPOS removes the boundary wire but adds a plug-in kit and, where Wi-Fi does not cover the garden, a fixed reference station. One dependency substitutes for another rather than disappearing.

Sub-centimeter boundary accuracy pairs with bump-sensor-only obstacle detection. Precision positioning does not buy onboard sensing.

Wire-free operation is an add-on rather than a standard fitting. The EPOS Plug-in kit is a separate purchase, so the wire-free configuration and the base machine are two different prices under one model name.

Segway Navimow H1500E

Wire-free convenience moves the install work rather than removing it: no buried perimeter, but a GNSS receiver that has to be pole or wall mounted with clear sky view, at least 2 m from tall structures and wired back to the dock, before the mower can hold its 2 cm fix.

RTK positioning depends on satellite visibility for both the receiver and the mower. Under heavy canopy the fix drops and the mower pauses or returns to the dock until it recovers. Segway publishes no minimum sky-view percentage, so shaded properties are worth trialing before committing.
Slopes steeper than 45 percent gradient
Segway rates the H1500E to a 45 percent gradient, which is about 24 degrees. Ground steeper than that sits outside the traction and blade-engagement rating and should be excluded from the operating zone rather than mowed at reduced speed.
Yards screened by buildings or heavy tree cover
EFLS positions to roughly 2 cm against the boundary the owner drives, so tight shapes and small islands are not the constraint. Satellite visibility is: sections shaded by canopy or hard against tall structures can drop the fix and pause the mower until it recovers.

  • After every use: Inspect cutting area for debris; verify successful dock engagement.
  • Weekly: Clean dock contacts and mower docking guides with a dry cloth.
  • Every 6-8 weeks: Replace the three pivoting razor blades as a set. Genuine Husqvarna long-life blades run about $5 to $8 for a set of three.
  • Every 3 months: Check EPOS positioning through the app and re-survey the installation if coverage has drifted.
  • Annually: Inspect wheel brushes and drive gears for wear.
  • Seasonally: Before winter storage, clean the mower, charge the battery fully, and store it indoors in a dry place above freezing. Do not store the pack discharged.
  • As needed: Clean the charging station and, where a reference station is installed, verify its sky view remains unobstructed.
Segway Navimow H1500E
  • Weekly: Inspect the blades for chips and dulling; clear compacted clippings from the underside of the deck.
  • Every 1-2 months, or about every 80 operating hours: Replace the blades. They are double-edged, so an edge that has dulled is flipped rather than honed, and the blade is then replaced. Segway’s Blade Assembly Plus kit is 12 blades and 15 bolts for roughly $15 to $25.
  • Monthly: Wipe charging dock connectors and check mower contact pins for corrosion.
  • Seasonally (Spring/Fall): Check the GNSS receiver is still square on its mount and that new growth has not blocked its view of the sky.
  • Annually: Before winter layup, charge the lithium pack and store the mower dry and above freezing. The pack is stored charged, never run flat.
