What each one does on its own.
The Autonomy Ladder is the same five rungs for every robot on the site. A rung describes the conditions a robot handles without you, not how good it is.
Where they actually differ.
The Robovations Score is nine inputs across three pillars, each weighted as shown and each scored so that more is better. A robot can lead on one and trail on another, which is the point of showing them apart. Cost of ownership and data handling are reported on each robot's own page and are never averaged into the score.

How far apart is a long way?
A number only means something next to the spread it sits in. Each track below is the real range across every classified robot in the class, with the median marked.

Not compared, because fewer than two of these robots carry a published figure: Suction, Charge time, Noise.
What the numbers leave out.
The trade-off
What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.
Camera images are stated to stay on the robot by default, but voice-command interpretation still requires sending an audio clip to the manufacturer’s servers.
A small desktop footprint limits its physical reach, while also limiting the collision and fall risk that applies to full-room-roaming robots.
The robot’s height rule is the only thing separating a weed from a crop: anything under about an inch gets the string trimmer. You gain passivity but forfeit the selective precision of hand-weeding, and low ornamentals are cut alongside the weeds.
Who each one is wrong for
Stated by the record itself. A robot being wrong for a household is a fact about fit, not a fault.
- Buyers wanting whole-room or multi-room navigation
- EMO operates within a single bounded desktop area and does not navigate a full room.
- Households wanting a fully offline device
- Voice-command interpretation requires an internet connection and a round trip to Living.AI's servers after the wake word is detected.
- Buyers wanting explicit, detailed data-handling disclosure
- Living.AI's published privacy notice is general rather than EMO-specific and does not clearly enumerate camera or voice data practices.
- Gardens with dense, established weeds
- The string trimmer cuts plants under about an inch tall; anything taller is treated as a crop and left standing. Thick-rooted perennials such as dandelion and thistle regrow from the root regardless. Not a solution for overgrown beds.
- Densely planted ornamental beds
- Tertill cannot distinguish weeds from small ornamentals or intentional groundcover. Owners report accidental damage to low-growing plants sharing beds.
- Owners needing precise control or fast results
- The robot operates on a slow suppression schedule, not rapid cleanup. Owners seeking immediate weed elimination or seasonal maintenance prefer manual or chemical approaches.
What stays your job
The upkeep ownership hands back to you, whatever the autonomy level says.
- Monthly: Wipe the four optical drop sensors under the base; edge detection at a desk edge depends on them staying clean.
- Monthly: Wipe the LED face and camera window with a dry, soft cloth to keep the display and face tracking clear.
- As needed: Apply software updates through the Living.AI companion app; the manufacturer publishes no update schedule.
- As needed: Keep the magnetic Home Station powered and its contacts free of dust; EMO returns to it on its own at roughly 2 hours of active use per charge.
- As needed: Keep the bounded desktop play area clear of clutter and liquids; EMO stays inside it using its time-of-flight and drop sensors.
- Weekly: Remove grass clumps and debris from the trimmer head and wheels.
- Monthly: Inspect battery terminals for corrosion, clean if needed.
- Seasonally: Store indoors over winter or through heavy rain, with the battery charged rather than left flat; check rubber seals before redeployment.
- As needed: Replace the trimmer string. It is the wear part, and a robot that has stopped cutting has usually worn it through. Franklin lists a Whacker String Replacement Kit at $9.99, one of the few items still available after discontinuation.
How much each of these is standing on.
Classifications rest on different depths of evidence. A pre-release assessment and a verified one are not the same kind of claim.
