What each design gives up to be good at what it is good at.

Ecovacs Deebot T8 AIVI

On-robot camera means cloud dependency: Ecovacs uploads video frames to their servers for AIVI processing. Privacy controls exist, but no local-processing alternative; offline operation falls back to LiDAR alone and loses obstacle avoidance.

AIVI false positives extend cleaning time: Camera misidentifies reflections and shadows as obstacles, causing pauses and delayed exits. Firmware updates reduced frequency but did not eliminate it.

One pass for two jobs, at the cost of tending it: the 240 mL reservoir and mop plate let the machine vacuum and mop together, but the water is finite on larger floors, the pad is washed and dried by hand, and carpet detection means a mop run has to route around any rug in the way.

Roborock Qrevo 2 Pro

The dock washes and dries mop pads at temperatures usually reserved for pricier docks, but structured-light sensors cannot see a charging cable the way a camera-equipped flagship can.

Auto Mop Removal parks the mop before carpet; carpet-border misreads however still let the robot begin mopping onto an area rug until a no-mop zone is drawn.

2.4GHz-only Wi-Fi: a home running a merged or 5GHz-first network may need to split bands before the robot will connect.

Independent testing found the robot picks up nearly every unflattened cable it crosses; its structured-light sensors cannot distinguish thin cords from open floor the way a camera can.

The robot connects on 2.4GHz exclusively; a router broadcasting only a 5GHz band, or one merged without a 2.4GHz option, will not complete setup.

  • After every mop run: Remove the mop pad, rinse it and hang it to dry. Empty and dry the 240 mL reservoir; water left standing in the tank turns stale.
  • Daily: Inspect main brush and side brush for wrapped hair; remove tangles if present.
  • Weekly: Empty dust bin, HEPA filter tap-clean (no washing).
  • Monthly: Main brush bristle inspection; camera lens wipe with microfiber cloth.
  • Every 3-6 months: Main brush replacement; side brush replacement; HEPA filter replacement if tap-clean no longer restores suction. Mop pads thin out with the grit they collect and are replaced as they wear.
  • If using the auto-empty dock: Replace the dust bag when the station reports it full, which runs to several months in a single-person hard-floor home, and clean the dock filter at the same time.

  • Weekly: Check the main brush and side brush for tangled hair, cables, or cords.
  • Monthly: Empty or replace the dock’s self-sealing dust bag and wipe the water tank.
