Apple’s reported $1,000 home robot can’t decide if it rolls or just swivels
Two unconfirmed reports describe an Apple home device priced above $1,000, as early as 2027. But Apple has confirmed nothing, and the two accounts disagree on what the device even looks like. One says a robot that moves itself between rooms. The other says a fixed screen that only pivots toward whoever is speaking.

Apple is building a home device code-named J595 that could cost $1,000 or more, according to a report published November 2, 2026. That is several times the $299 Apple charges for its own stationary smart display. The device would roam between rooms, answer FaceTime calls and switch on lights when someone enters.
No one at Apple has confirmed any part of this, and both accounts rest on anonymous sources. They disagree on what the device even is. One describes a robot that moves itself from room to room. The other describes a 9-inch screen on a motorized arm, fixed in place, that only turns and tilts toward whoever is speaking.
The project has reportedly slipped once already, from an original 2027 target toward 2028. One account ties the delay to added features beyond basic video calling, and frames the holdup as software rather than hardware.
Nothing on sale today matches either description. Smart displays and robot vacuums, the nearest comparisons, sell for a fraction of $1,000, and neither moves through a house nor places a video call. A buyer would wait until at least 2027, the earlier of the two reported dates, to own whichever version Apple builds.
Two leaks two weeks apart, naming the same project, do not amount to confirmation from Apple. Neither says which design, if either, reaches production, or whether Apple ships a home robot at all.
